My builders for a loft conversion have done a terrible job
Hi, looking for advice. My builders for a loft conversion and remodelling on the ground floor have done a terrible job, along with failing to turn up more often than not. They said the work would take 6 weeks. One year later and the house is not in a condition that building control will sign off. Incorrectly fitted fire doors, stair bannister missing, no evidence that the new windows comply with regulations…amongst other things. The builder is ignoring me. I paid in instalments. The conversion was intended to provide a personal bathroom and bedroom space for my disabled son. This whole undertaking has been a nightmare.

Why don’t you name it and shame it
Every year we taking over from cowboys to complete projects and it’s getting worse

Paid the final payment? Got a contract with them? Do you know the window manufacturer? You can usually get the paperwork if you can contact them. Doors will need refitting obviously. Might as well just get somone else in to do the rectification.

I’ve tried contacting the window company but they haven’t replied. Ive managed to get their warranty on the new windows and I can see which products they use but I don’t know how to find out if they are fitted as per building regs and whether they need a guard rail. They rattle a lot which I was expecting.
