    Cost of architect package

    Evening everyone.

I’m contemplating a ground floor remodel or a modest rear single storey extension. Have had two architects round – both local and recommended. Quite different in style and turns out quite different in price! £1500 v £2150. They seem to be offering the same design package although the more expensive one is a little more vague about that is included or excluded.

Do you think £1500 is a reasonable price for survey and designs for 3 options?

For context I live in a converted 1950s bungalow in Sussex.

Picture of my little one at Nymans so the post doesn’t get lost

I would ask which RIBA stage the package cover, and whether the quote is based on an estimate of the hours the job is likely to take, or deliverables. If you’re assessing ln price only, make sure you compare like for like. I do think it’s important to see these fees in light of the full cost of your project – and also think about who you want to work with throughout your project.

I would ask if they are RIBA registered and compare like for like on how much oversight too they provide during and at the end in terms of signing of key building stages. Ideally this allow for payments to be linked to key stages of completion and sign off by the architect.
