Just looking for advice on prices for a bathroom plastering and tiling job,

I have a 2×2 metre bathroom that needs two full walls tiling, one of which has the bath on. And two other walls to be tiled half height. There is one windowsill and two shower niches. The tiles are 600×300.

The two half height walls need the top half skimming and the ceiling needs skimming.

I had a plasterer/tiler to quote. They said 3 days work and quoted £1800 labour only.

This seems like such a lot of money for three days work but I don’t know if I am completely out of touch or not so looking for other opinions

Where about are you? If you are near Surrey or London that is what I would expect.

We’ve got a quote of £5.5k to redo a full bathroom of similar size, in Yorkshire (remove existing fittings, replaster walls and ceilings, install new lights and extractor, fit bathroom (loo, sink, bath, over bath shower and shower screen, tile 2 walls, tile floor.) We’re suppling the bathroom and tiles.

Waiting for 2 more quotes to get back to me.

Try to remember you aren’t just paying for ‘three days work’ – you’re paying for years of experience, equiptment, vans, insurance, etc etc, not to mention the sheer muscle it takes to do that kind of work (you never meet 50 year old plasterers do you?). Plus yours is a fiddly job in a small area, so you’ll be getting the ‘faff tax’ added on. But that does seem expensive and defo worth getting more quote. If your walls are smooth why not consider doing the tiling yourself? Start in the less conspicuous areas, grout very carefully in wet areas, borrow some equipment and try cutting on any damaged tiles first.

Saying that I would always get 3-5 quotes and see pictures of work. The quality can vary significantly.
