Kitchen renovation – what are your favourite gadgets?

Hello clever people. We’re about to do our kitchen and I’m just wondering what your favourite design features / gadgets are? We’re a bit blank canvas at the moment.

I thought i would really like a pot filler tap on top of the hob, but since the sink is very close to the hob I don’t think if will be very useful… I am really interested in a workstation sink though, looks very practical. It’s a sink with draining compartment and a chopping board you can rest on top…

A very clever friend told me to put the kettle in a cupboard with the tea and coffee stuff (is on a pull- out shelf) and the toaster on a tray which I put in a cupboard to keep the surfaces tidy. Works a treat!

My Quooker has been the best investment ever . I was a bit sceptical but it’s been a cooking godsend and so useful

Drawers instead of cupboards. Drawers inside lower cupboards. Bins in a pull out cupboard. A double sink. Built in microwave if budget allows. Not a fan of anything that will put water inside a cupboard, ie kettle, coffee maker, too steamy.
Generally, save on carcasses, inserts, machines you won’t see or use much, and splurge on taps, handles, hinges, good lighting, nice worktop.

We got a Bibo water filter for instant hot and chilled water. It does take up worktop space but can’t be without it now! Love it!
We have a sink sprayer that we totally love too, so good for blasting off things and cleaning the sink.
I concur on drawers over cupboards too. We have our bins in a special pull out drawer cupboard and have under sink drawers that fit our recycling bins so keeps it all tidy and out of sight!

I’ve just had my kitchen done. Pull out bins are the best thing ever, there’s also a hidden drawer in the unit i got to store bin bags. Tall unit that houses oven and microwave is brilliant, no bending to take things out of the oven and a tall larder unit

I love our bins in a drawer so no unsightly bin on display anymore.
We also have an old fashioned drying rack which I use for frying herbs / flowers and the odd tea towel.
If you are on Insta, check out Danny Wang designs. His account features some really clever storage solutions such as double backsplashes to hide a drinks station to keep surfaces looking tidy.

Pop up’s for knives if you have little ones around and an embedded compost bin if you’re a gardener. Finally, put the dishwasher at standing level with a cupboard for dishes beside it – gets rid of all those arguments about whose turn it is.

I had my kitchen fitted last year. The best things are my Quooker tap, my amazing AEG French style fridge freezer with flexi drawer and ice maker and my fitted storage – larder cupboards, lined drawers, my food warming drawer (I have a large family and it is so useful for entertaining) and finally, my easy to clean tiled floor. Negatives – built in additional fridge freezer (drawers are too small to be practical so for me, not worth the expense). Under sink bin (which again isn’t practical for my size family but probably fine for a smaller family though).

we are looking at getting an insinkerator for our kitchen extension. I just wondered how you’d got on with yours in terms of use /reliability. Thanks

it’s working great, just as good as when we installed it 4 years ago . But, we don’t use it for heavy duty stuff like chicken bones. More for small things like veg peel
