Just got a solar quote
Posted by Charlotte White on January 17, 2026 at 1:18 pmJust got a solar quote
We’ve just got a quote for solar panels and was wondering if this looks good? He said we didn’t need a battery as the panels will make over what we use, but I don’t know enough about it to know whether that’s true or not. I’ve seen on here lots of people have batteries, so wasn’t sure if I was getting fobbed off?
The initial quote was £8,290 but they can do it for £7,000 if we get back quickly to them.(He said large order had been postponed so they have extra stock in warehouse – honestly not sure if I believe that) There was a lot of salesman talk, which I’m not keen on – but I’m not sure if I’m letting that sway my judgement and potentially putting me off a good deal?
Was hoping (as a complete newbie!) for some opinions from people on here with more experience about whether it’s a good deal to go for or not.
Thank you

Honestly I have no idea whether or not that is a good system but based purely on the sales pitch I would run a mile.

For that price you should get a battery with it. Look elsewhere.

I’ll be honest it looks expensive to me. I had 20 x 450 panels, 14.7kw Solax system all in for £12k. I’m no expert!! I would definitely recommend batteries though. They have saved me a fortune so far.

10X 450w panels and 3.6 kw inverter ?
Too expensive. I paid less 3 years ago and all panels had micro inverters.
Try another company , never trust the ‘ hurry up and get it whilst you can ‘ approach

I just fitted 16 panels, a 10kw battery with warming, an inverter and a car charger for just less than £10k. I will not race to the bottom on price, and truthfully think I’m ’middle of the road’ compared to
Some things I see on here. £7k seems a lot. I’d need to see your circumstances re the battery, but it doesn’t seem right on first glance.

I have previously worked with Eco Energy and I would avoid like the plague.
Salesmanship in full force with the workshop overstock!
If you’d like a more honest approach and quote I’d be happy to supply one, have a look at the review online and avoid.
More than happy to share more information on a message

Very expensive and bad sales technique…run! Where in the country are you??? I can recommend a very good installer who did mine.
-
I’ve just had 15 panels, same size inverter and 10kw battery installed for £8600.
My solar is contributing less than an hour a day at the moment, that’s where the battery comes in with cheaper rates
-
You’re being ripped off!
You can easily get a SolarEdge PV only system with 10 X Eurener 500w bifacial panels for £5500 with a 10 year workmanship warranty and 20 year warranty on the inverter.
-
I’m having 12 all black panels (not Chinese) 5.4kw system no batteries as it wouldn’t make sense for my usage next Friday for £3995 if you’re in the midlands/yorkshire area give Conner at ecocute a call
-
Solar express did me a good quote, Canadian solar 12 x 455w panels plus 10 kWh battery storage for around a £8800.

Anyone offering a deal for a quick response walk away. Looks expensive.
I’ve just had 9kw solar 10.2kwh ecoflow batteries installed with all paperwork and applications re G99 installed for just over £11k. I would also recommend having batteries, I initially wanted 5.1kwh then changed it before install to 2 batteries and to be honest if I get spare money I will add a 3rd.
Get at least 3 quotes and do your own checks on the company from reviews to companies house.
Check their accreditation status and what warranties they offer re workmanship insist on at least 5 years.
Checking they haven’t other local installs and if yo can go and see/ speak to the customer.
Once you have a system you are happy with if necessary go back to the other installers and ask for another quote.
Do Not rush this.

When I added batteries I wondered why I had not done this first. Batteries can be charged anytime whereas solar only works when there is enough sun. Have a run of dull days and your mainly using grid energy. With batteries and dull days you can charge off peak and, if there is enough capacity, run on cheap rate 24/7. Adding solar just makes ‘free’ at times..

“He said we didn’t need a battery as the panels will make over what we use” – surely that is where a battery becomes most beneficial!
I’m not sure about price but it sounds like pressure selling, I would avoid!
-
The “can do it for a good price if you’re quick cos I’ve got extra stock in the warehouse” line would be enough to make me walk away on its own. No time for that BS.

I study my set up almost day in day out.
The requirement of a battery is so compelling, there’s a strong argument to have inverter and battery ahead of solar panels. I could go on for ages, but the advice you’ve been given from my view point isn’t right.
(Don’t know your demand/ current supply/ heating source)

I’m not sure if we’re allowed to recommend but I would speak to Light Renewables – for the price you’ve been quoted we have 6 more panels and a battery. Been impressed with them so far and you get a 10 year insurance backed guarantee.

Your paying with your hard earned cash do your homework ,batteries are a great asset ,get it right first time pick a good company and get a load of quotes I took a year but we’ll happy don’t be pressured good luck

I think they’re doing something screwy with the savings as well. Assuming 28p/kWh electricity cost and 15p/kWh export, I make it a saving of £330.71 through the 1051.04 of solar generated electricity used and £415 for 2770kWh exported. So a saving of £745 for the first year. What tarrif are they basing their £965 annual saving on?

It you are based in the North Try P4 solar Yorkshire.
I got quite a few different quotes and one was also really pushy like you mentioned here.
P4 solar were not pushy at all and explained everything thoroughly with me
