Would we need building control for a partial garage conversion?
Would we need building control or any sort of permission to knock the wall out separating the garage and kitchen and then extending the kitchen and keeping part of the garage (see pictures) The wall is not a supporting so no steels would be required as far as I’m aware. (The wall stops just above the plasterboard)
The joists run in the same direction as the wall.
Any help/advise would be appreciated, thanks.

Building reg but that wall could be supporting, it run l to the stairs. It doesn’t run the whole length which is odd. Do your floor boards run the other way

the wall between kitchen and garage stops just above the plasterboard. The garage and kitchen side was extended before we moved in, there is already an RSJ between the lounge and dining area.

I think you don’t need any permission, as it’s an internal wall and you also have pre build cavity wall , just replacing wall from existing place to another place in order to extend kitchen.. and garage door will remain as same ..

Will need Structural Engineers details and calculations, and a building notice submitted

Hi You’ll definitely need Building Control approval for this, even if the wall isn’t load-bearing.
Once you knock through between the garage and kitchen, the space becomes habitable, meaning it must meet Building Regulations — including thermal insulation, fire safety, ventilation, and structural compliance.
Even if no steels are needed, you’ll still need:
A building regulation drawing pack showing the new layout and compliance
U-value upgrades to the garage walls/floor
Possibly a building notice application with your local council or approved inspector
