Single skin wall damp/mould
Posted by Wayne Harris on January 4, 2026 at 10:20 amHi all after some advice please. This area of my porch has damp/mould. It has a full DPC course. Single skin.
I was wondering is this penetrating damp or do you think it’s just because it’s a cold room.
I wanted to insulate and plasterboard inside to make it look nicer/warmer. Thanks in advance

It’s because it’s single skin. Rain water is penetrating the brickwork and coming through on the inside

Its a single skin wall, it will always be damp, the bricks just absorb any rain and eventually when they are saturated the rainwater will show on the inside. Before wasting any ,money inside you need to try and halt the water ingress, try coating the outside with a proprietary sealant, if you stop the ingress then you can look at insulating inside etc. be warned, once you start sealing the brickwork on the outside, you will need to keep recoating it, or the damp issue will return

It’s condensation forming, look at your glass, this moist air is settling on the cold wall and this is ideal for mould to form. It’s not water ingress.

Bcs of single brick this happening water ingress inside . If do plaster and then missionary paint out side wall or do silicone render on outside wall it will sort out . And inside you can do insulation and plaster board

It’s as much condensation as it is water ingress pal , but yes insulation plasterboard , 25mm celotex will achieve desired results or insulated and studded out but will lose allot of space that way

Single skin brickwork warm air hitting cold bricks is the problem

Looks more like effervescence not damp its a brick brick wall some tracking across looks like no heating so will always get damp in winter , and with people going in and out and wet footwear its going to get damp
Open inner door to it more often will help , you can just crack door for an hour or so
I built conservatory with insulation in walls and had heating in there , now only use it in summer

I had a porch like this. Complete waste of space. Had it knocked down and a proper extension of the hallway built that we can heat and store things warm. It’s brilliant.
You will never get that room dry. Don’t waste money trying. It’s a bodge and never complied with any building regulations. Sorry.
