    G99 Application

Another question for you all. We are looking at an installation that will require a G99 application. But we are short of time. In order to get funding we need to complete the install before the end of March.

I know G99 should be gained prior to installation starting, but we are currently with an electric supplier on a contract until September and we don’t have a smart meter. So we can’t export anything for the time being anyway. So would it be bad to start install before G99 gained?…….

Can’t install over 3.6KW without a G99 but under a G98 you are good to go

It’s a big building. 3.6KW is ridiculously small for our scenario…

If your panel output isn’t used within the house or stored in batteries – you will export, just won’t be paid for the energy. So I think the G99 rule still applies.

Depending on the size of the inverter you’re looking at, you may be surprised by how quickly a G99 application is reviewed. A G99 fast track is often within 24 hours. Above that can take longer, but you would likely heave heard back by end of March.

Yes. Get approval first else you are buying a pig in a poke.

Nuance : if it’s just 5kW export you are looking at (just over 3.68 G98j, then meh. If it’s 15kW you want, you need to know before investing.

    Export rates are dropping …

Our install isn’t about the export (although that’s a bonus if we can make money from that). It’s about self-reliance, especially if the grid goes down. Yes we are looking at 15kW inverter.

If it was me get I would get the installer to submit a G99 tomorrow and leave to 4 weeks aka Feb and have a 1 March install if no G99 comes you are G98 at least so fallback to a 3.68Kw system something is better than nothing, don’t install in the hope of g99 you might be liable for any “damage” the dno might find !!

Nothing you can do about but submit the G99 and hope it comes back in time. Idk who your grant is from but I would bet you have to sign off a document saying it’s all legal and certified, before funds are released and then any comeback is on you. G99 is a safe connection approval with an export allowance included. If any damage occurs to the grid or the VH or anyone else’s property without a G99 in place the VH trustees will be liable.
