Supplier price increase due to fuel prices going up

Hi everyone, I am soon starting a big project. We are in final negotiations with the builder. The builder said he received mails from suppliers (for now steel and skip) that their prices are increasing (most likely due to the current affairs with fuel). Just want to check this is really happening to everyone else as well? He is adjusting his quote and coming back tomorrow. Also what is going to happen if we soon sign the contract can there be price increases after the contract is signed?

    Yes everything is going up.

All sheet materials by about 7.5%

    Pir board 17.5%

    Plastics 8.5%

    List goes on

Don’t u watch the news, surely u can’t be serious…fuel is going up ,food is going up,everything is going up but you seem to think building materials are not

Yes this is happening on all materials. Our builder has purchased all upfront ( we have paid for them) and as we have space to store them that’s how we are trying to protect against increases. I think you also need to be prepared for longer lead times for supplies as well.

We are window installers and have had notifications this week of price increases on all products, some with immediate affect.

This is true, but what’s more worrying is you’re on here questioning your builders integrity, and he’s not even put a shovel in the ground!!!

that doesn’t mean u dont question things u dont understand or have experience of. Im guessing u either arent in the building game or havent been in long if u dont know theres a lot of rubbish spoken.

I’ve had about 4 merchants message me in the last 2 weeks saying price increases imminent due to war in Iran.

If your contract is signed your builder can still increase pricing with a formal change order. A quote is legally binding, an estimate is not and can be changed. Your builder wants to make sure his paperwork is in order and worded correctly as you’re already questioning there integrity lol. Also if your ideas and plans change throughout or at any point the quote is no longer valid.

Yeah! I work in the Natural Fibre Insulation business and thankfully it’s only our transportation that will be rising, however, we’ve seen some PIR companies starting from 17% but expecting to rise up to around 34%!

It’s also April so any good business will be reviewing their costs, sorting payrises inline with inflation etc

I believe big project that go on for moths probably will have a clause init.

As I remember after Covid the back to back inflation of 10% I was only able to hold the price the day it was given

Steel fabrication here – steel has gone up roughly £70-£100 per tonne weekly for the last 3 weeks and will keep going

Lots of price rises happened yesterday and there are more coming over the next few months. Fuel is a big one due to the current crisis.

The biggest rises have been in PIR insulation, OSB and MDF.

You can expect any high energy usage suppliers to raise their prices very soon – brick manufacturers being one.

To be honest when 60p a litre is added to fuel bill every will go up. I’m a wedding photographer so all my contracts were locked in 2 years ago which I except and always factor in a little cost rise but this week alone everything has jumped in cost with inflation. The fuel just adds a dent I wasn’t expecting along with many industries

Tell him you can’t afford it and put it on ice. People keep finding the money prices will keep going up.

I run a tile showroom and the pallet delivery cost from Europe has up.

But as we are small and independent we have not passed on that to our customers yet. Please.DM if you need tiles for your project and I can help you save cost
