Considering the Fox K-series hybrid inverter. Does anyone know if a) you can limit generation power (if DNO requires it) like the Tesla? I see there is a ‘power limit’ in the settings. b) is there any harm going for the biggest inverter size other than cost? Just thinking future proofing for more panels. The spec sheet looks like it’s the same hardware, locked with software.

Yes you can limit export if required by DNO

No harm, assuming you’ll be able to meet demands with batteries and or solar its future proofing, but if for example you have an EP5 and 2kWp of Solar they’d be no point going for a KH10

Assuming you mean KH range, if so yes, they are G100 devices and can have their export limited.

If you have the budget I’m an advocate for it!

Thanks. I was specifically thinking their ‘installed capacity’ in case the DNO tries to limit it overall and a lower limit for export.

I think if you’re comparing to the Tesla and want an AIO solution on a budget, then look into the Fox EVO.

It’s an AIO with a built in inverter with sizes ranging from 5, 8 & 10kW with a 10.24kWh battery.

Looks great aesthetically and is perfect for outdoor installation. It’s IP66!

You’d be able to limit export with this too.

It’s more that an installer has said if the DNO decide to limit ‘installed capacity’ I would need to change the inverter to be smaller, and that the Tesla could be software limited. It’s probably a misunderstanding, because it looks like the Fox KH range can have max inverter limited.

it’s been mentioned that they’ll quote for 10kw and change if the DNO say less. I’d want to keep the 10kw and downgrade in software. Don’t understand why powerwall 3 is OK to be software limited but other brands they suggest changing hardware.

I am probably wrong but my understanding is that the pw3 can be set in software to a fixed limit in steps from 11.04 down to 3.68kw for either or all three i.e. generation export and import so in my case ideally if the dno limit export and nothing else I still want and expect generation left at 11.04

I am having this awkward conversation as well with installers that I have been asking to quote, either they don’t understand what I am asking or it might involve extra work to do because they keep dodging the question and instead suggesting the inverter generation will be limited if I go for a pw3 or sized to the size the dno allow if I go with some other brands

The DNO can restrict the inverter size that can be installed, but that would be unusual. Highly likely is that export rate will be limited, but could be anything from 3.68kW to 18.4kW, wont know until they submit the G99. Submit for KH8 or KH10, and see what they say, if they come back with 5kW, then installer can just limit export.
