It’s not exactly going to make them prohibitive for domestic installations. Circa £25/panel, so 16 panels about £400 more, on probably a £10k system. If £400 is your tipping point over 20 years, I’m not sure Solar is for you.

materials don’t get sold to clients at cost, £400 wholesale cost is £400 + % markup retail. Could be anywhere from £500 to £800.

I can assure you wholesale markup is not as high as everyone thinks – it’s a volumes game margins are tiny !

We didn’t learn from the last energy price crisis.

    I did…gloatingly.

Im thinking of buying another battery to add to my system as I’m expecting battery’s to jump up in price as we head into the next winter.

This has been news in wholesale since mid December. Most wholesalers have been creeping prices up since January. Chinese removing VAT subsidy but shipping, handling and wholesale will want their share.

20% on wholesale prices will only work out at a few pound a panel.

Does anyone know what the mark up at each stage is? The 9% isn’t on top of what we see in the UK, it’s from what the Chinese solar company sells to the wholesaler. So if the Chinese company sells it to a UK wholesaler for £60 does it end up at £80 (ex vat)? Or is the margin smaller or larger? I know wholesalers have different markups but it would at least give us more of an idea. In any case 9% in China at £60 comes to a smaller amount than if 9% was applied to £80.

unless you have evidence I consider this fake news.

And before you retort and challenge my fake news assertion, there are lots of rumours/conjecture that the tariff and other changes will result in increases but no one has been able to evidence the actual wholesale price increases or an impact on the retail price of solar.

I’ve been told the same by virtually every wholesaler we deal with domestic and commercially.

Many are saying that the price of silver is a key driver because the panels are made with this component and it’s very easy to track the rise of price of this.

Whether or not it’s solely down to this I’m not sure but it’s certainly the case that prices are rising for the panels.

    £56 for a 410 panel still a bargain
