Bird guards – I’ve got a couple of pigeons nesting under my solar panels, someone in our area is feeding them and encouraging them to stay nearby and as a result starting to nest under our panels

Does anyone know how much bird guards cost? Can anyone share photos of their bird guards as some look so unsightly.

The only other alternative is bird gels which have been used at our work and these seem very effective although not sure how long they’d last.

Look at any Artisan Electrics solar video, they use bird guards on all their installations. The main cost will be scaffolding?

I had a company come and fit galvanised steel mesh around mine. It’s anchored to the solar panel brackets so no drilling or screwing into the panels so don’t worry about voiding any warranties. after my system was installed, I’ve got away with it for about eight months before the pigeon started nesting.

Bird guards on your roof, unsightly? Who’s going to notice or be bothered apart from the pigeons!

Have a look at solaskirt by

Titan Eco. That’s what we have and it looks smart. Our panels are on the garage so can be seen from the dining room window.

If you have ‘active’ nests underneath the panels then you’ll need a certified pest control company to remove any eggs or newly hatched birds before putting mesh guard on

Bird guards are usually a mesh fitted around the edges of the panels to stop pigeons getting underneath .
The typically cost around £300–£700 installed, depending on the system size. If fitted neatly they’re not very noticeable from the ground and are usually a more permanent solution than gels.
