    Looking for advice/opinion.

Solarfast have recommended us to a customer who wants us to retrofit an ATS to a Duracell inverter and battery system. Duracell have tested and approved the ATS so no issues there. Solarfast have said they will no longer honour the workmanship warranty once the ATS is installed.

    What would you do?

Surely letter of compliance from Duracell should be suffice? Otherwise there just negating there responsibility with no good reason. But then to be fair I wouldn’t expect them to cover the workmanship of the ATS side. If they are still prepared to offer warranty on the system components rather than the workmanship maybe appraise the system before installing the ATS and inform the customer of the installation quality and anything you wouldn’t be prepared to put your name against etc. How longs the workmanship guarantee got remaining?

Think surely there’s a medium ground somewhere, if your altering the AC side majorly then fair enough you guys take on the responsibility of that but you can’t take ownership of the DC side as you’ve not touched it and don’t know the quality etc

This is an issue I can see becoming more common, if any alterations are made to a system you can’t really blame the original installers from voiding the original warranty, I don’t think I’d be happy to honour a warranty on someone else’s workmanship if they’d altered the original install, perhaps a secondary warranty would need to be purchased to cover the mods?

Much the same as moving the inverter and batteries into your enclosures, I had wondered how that would effect the original warranty, manufacture warranty won’t be effected but the workmanship warranty I wouldn’t imagine would stand?

If seen some of the installs from solar fast….. they live up to their name and it’s thrown in within a few hours

If anyone installs a automatic transfer switch ATS they would have to complete an electrical installation certificate for all circuits supplied. They would have to issue two certificates, one when connected to grid power and another one when in off grid mode. Earth rod is required to be installed and connected to earthing system.

If you are NICEIC registered just watch the wire about generators supplying circuits. 65mins long. Goes towards your CPD hours.
