Looking for solar installer in South Yorkshire
Posted by Rachel Smith on February 4, 2026 at 12:55 pmIm new to this solar game and currently looking for a company in the South Yorkshire area. I’ve recently had one company out that have quoted for 10 panels with bird mesh hybrid inverter and 5kw battery for £12800. Other companies have advised after looking on google maps that my roof is not suitable for solar as there are multiple slopes which face different directions. This leaves me rather confused and a little worried that if I do go with the one quote I have, the panels will be inefficient. Can someone please advise of reputable installer and a ball park figure I should be looking for.

I’ve got future proof solar installing mine tomorrow. I dealt with Rob Tomlinson, who is in this group. He was great when he came to meet us.

thanks for the offer @phillips-tom-1956 . I’d be happy to for you to carry out a survey and may be confirm my roof is suitable.

That first quote is expensive. So it must be the multiple slides and roofs hitting you. Post the picture of the roof as I suspect the other installers that said it might not be worth it could be correct.

I’m in chesterfield can pop out and give you a quote you would probably need optimisers on the panels if they face in different directions we are about £8k -£9k on 10 panel with a 6.2 battery .

that one looks entertaining! Some installers will try to quote remotely off dimensions from that picture via google maps.
You probably need them to visit measure accurately or get up there and measure all aspects yourself so you can provide it.
Ive produced a document detailing my roof sizes, angle, system requirements cable and equipment locations etc so they all have consistent info to work from
There’s probably room for some panels on the south, east and west bits creating three strings but if say there’s only room for two or three panels per side there might be issues with low voltages in each string.
A lot of the lower powered inverters only support two strings so a decent installer may recommend optimisers and create one or two strings instead from the three aspects
This game isn’t a race so be patient look for local installers preferably by recommendation and just keep at it until you’ve had three or even four people out to give quotes. I have someone coming tomorrow to quote he’ll be my third over the last couple of weeks, but the info advice and ideas provided by the previous two have proven invaluable.
It a shame I will have to say no thanks to two or three of them and on the flip side one or more may be too busy and choose not to quote so it is again definitely worth contacting several

Hi I’m just ten miles north of Newcastle and I used a company believe it or not from Doncaster but they do work up here anyway. I got 20 solar panels an inverter a 10kw battery and bird proofing and all certs required and they had the scaffolding set up on the Tuesday they arrived at mine on the Saturday morning just after 8 am and also installed a OHME Pro charger on the day and they left at 7.55 pm all completed to travel back to Doncaster for a well earned Pizza and they were cracking lads. This was the end of last September 25 all in for 9k plus the car charger they had a special offer on. I would recommend them to anyone

did the company you used give an insurance backed guarantee, is it something that is worth a little extra on a quote or not

I’m out of your area, Teesside.
That price seems high for only having 5kWh of batteries.
I paid £15k in 2023 for 20kW of batteries £2k for each 5kW, I’m told prices have came down since then.
I have south only facing panels and a west facing first floor roof but it’s too small to get x2 panels on, I was told it’s a no because of the size of the panels.
I never noticed how much sun we get after 4pm in the summer, until I had solar and see the south facing ones not generating much late in the day in the summer.
Make sure you can program to charge the batteries and discharge them with third party apps, as I’ve found the Inverter built in apps are challenging.
